There are a few options for finding free coin counters:

  • Banks and credit unions: Many banks and credit unions still offer coin-counting services, particularly for their account holders.

– Some banks, like JBT and Manasquan Bank, offer free coin counting for customers and may charge a fee for non-customers.
– Credit unions are generally more likely to have free coin-counting machines available to members.
– It’s a good idea to contact your specific bank or credit union branch to inquire about their policies, as some may require coins to be rolled beforehand.

  • Coinstar (with a caveat): Coinstar kiosks are widely available at grocery stores, retailers, and other locations.

– While Coinstar charges a fee for cash redemption (typically up to 12.9% plus a transaction fee), they offer free coin counting if you choose to convert your change into a gift card from one of their partner merchants (e.g., Amazon, Apple, Starbucks).
– You can also donate your change to charity for free through Coinstar, though a processing fee is retained by the company.

To summarize, your best bet for free coin counting is often your own bank or credit union if you’re a customer. If that’s not an option, consider using a Coinstar machine and selecting the e-gift card or charitable donation options to avoid fees.

Your local bank branch is a good place to exchange coins. The branch will typically give you coin wrappers for free. Credit unions or community banks are more likely to have free coin-counting machines for members.

Free coin counting is available at most locations in the United States if you cash in your coins for an eGift Card with a 0% fee. We have more than 20 stores and restaurants to choose from – eGift Card fees vary by brand.

      From my experience, Rolled coins
After the bank teller counts your coins, they will give you cash in exchange or send a deposit to your savings or checking account. Banks typically don’t charge for the coin exchange service if you’re an account holder.
