Unpacking the Mystery: So, What’s a Gimmighoul Coin Anyway?

At its core, a Gimmighoul Coin is a special, collectible key item found in both Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and Pokémon Go. • Chest Form Gimmighoul: This is the form you’re most likely to encounter in a battle. Gimmighoul’s Chest Form hides inside a sturdy, red-and-gold treasure chest. According to Paldean lore, it uses its ghostly energy to control people and other Pokémon, compelling them to bring it more coins. It lies in wait in old ruins and at the top of watchtowers, ambushing unsuspecting trainers who mistake it for treasure.
  • Roaming Form Gimmighoul: This form is much smaller, more elusive, and cannot be battled in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The Roaming Form carries a single coin on its back and wanders the vast landscapes of Paldea. It’s incredibly timid, and if a person approaches, it scampers away, often dropping its precious coin in the process. These are the Gimmighoul you hear with a faint “Co-iiin!” cry as you explore.

Understanding these two forms is the first step in mastering the art of coin collection. Each form provides coins in different ways and in different quantities, making both essential to your quest.

The Ultimate Prize: Why You Need to Collect Gimmighoul Coins

While the coins are fascinating collectibles, they have one primary, monumental purpose: to evolve Gimmighoul into the magnificent Gholdengo.

This evolution is one of the most unique in the entire Pokémon series. It’s not about levels, friendship, or evolutionary stones. It’s purely about wealth. To trigger the evolution, you must have a Gimmighoul in your party and accumulate a staggering 999 Gimmighoul Coins in your bag.

Once you meet this requirement, the process is simple: just level up your Gimmighoul by one level. This can be done through battling, using an Exp. Candy, or a Rare Candy. Upon leveling up, your Gimmighoul will consume all 999 coins and evolve into Gholdengo.

Why Gholdengo is Worth the Effort

Gholdengo, the Coin Entity Pokémon, is a powerhouse that is well worth the incredible collection effort.

  • Unique Typing: Gholdengo boasts a fantastic Steel/Ghost typing, a combination that grants it an incredible three immunities (Normal, Fighting, and Poison) and nine resistances.
  • Incredible Ability: Its signature Ability, Good as Gold, makes it immune to all status moves from opposing Pokémon (like Spore, Will-O-Wisp, or Stealth Rock). This is one of the best abilities in the entire game.
  • Powerful Signature Move: Gholdengo’s signature move, Make It Rain, is a 120-base-power Steel-type special attack that hits both opponents in a Double Battle. While it lowers the user’s Special Attack by one stage, its sheer power can often decide a match.
  • Awesome Design: Its body is said to be made of 1,000 stacked gold coins, giving it a truly unique and memorable appearance.

Your Treasure Map: How to Get Gimmighoul Coins in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

If you’re playing on the Nintendo Switch, your entire coin hunt will take place within the borders of the Paldea region. There are two primary methods for finding coins, and an efficient farmer will use both.

Method 1: Hunting Roaming Form Gimmighoul

This is the most consistent but slow-burn method of collecting coins. Tiny Roaming Form Gimmighouls are scattered all across Paldea.

  • Locations: They can be found almost anywhere! Look for them perched on top of signs, clinging to the sides of cliffs, hiding on rocks, resting on fence posts, and tucked away in the corners of ruins.
  • How to Find Them: Listen carefully as you travel. You will hear their faint, metallic cry when one is nearby. They are very small, so keep your eyes peeled. Using your ride Pokémon, Koraidon or Miraidon, to fly and scan areas from above can be very effective.
  • Interaction: You don’t battle these Gimmighouls. Simply walk up to them and press the ‘A’ button to interact. The Gimmighoul will be startled, drop some coins, and vanish.
  • Coin Yield: Each Roaming Form Gimmighoul will typically drop between 1 and 6 coins, though some have been known to drop more on rare occasions (20, 30, or even 50!).
  • Respawn Rate: Roaming Form Gimmighouls respawn every 24 hours in real-time. This makes it a great daily task to fly around Paldea and collect coins from known spawn points.

From my experience, How to evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo with Gimmighoul Coins. Gimmighoul does not use candy to evolve. You’ll need to find and collect 999 Gimmighoul Coins, just like in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Catching a Gimmighoul can make it drop some coins, but you’ll primarily need to grab them from golden PokéStops.
