The story of the lost coin, one of Jesus’s parables, is recorded in the Gospel of Luke chapter 15, verses 8-10.

A woman has ten silver coins, which are of significant value to her (possibly representing a dowry or her life savings). She loses one coin and undertakes a thorough search, lighting a lamp, sweeping her house, and diligently looking until she finds it. Upon finding the lost coin, she calls her friends and neighbors to rejoice with her.

This parable, along with the parables of the lost sheep and the prodigal son (both found in Luke 15), emphasizes the joy in heaven over one sinner who repents.

Jesus likens God to the woman searching for a precious coin. The woman finds the lost coin and rejoices. Like this woman, God longs for us and searches for us when we are lost and in pain. When we are found by God, we gain new insight into the meaning of God’s love.

Good point! The Parable of the Lost Coin is one of the parables of Jesus. It appears in Luke 15:8–10. In it, a woman searches for a lost coin, finds it, and rejoices.

From my experience, Luke 15:8–10 continues Jesus’ three parables about lost things, here speaking of a coin. In this analogy, the sinner is like a lost coin that doesn’t know it needs rescuing. When the woman finds the coin, she invites her neighbors to celebrate with her, like how heaven rejoices when a sinner repents.

From my experience, The Lost Coin: Symbol of the Lost Individual
The coin in the parable symbolizes individuals who have strayed from God or who do not yet know Him. The fact that it is part of a set of ten coins may hold further symbolic meaning. In Jewish culture, the number ten often signifies completeness or wholeness.
