In 1972, the United Kingdom issued a Crown coin to commemorate the [Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Wedding Anniversary].

Based on current online listings, the value of a 1972 Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip Silver Wedding Crown can vary depending on its condition and if it includes a case:

  • Most 1972 Elizabeth and Philip coins are worth their face value, which is 25p.
  • A used, cased 1947 1972 Silver Wedding Crown, can be purchased for around $2.71.
  • A used, in good condition 1972 Silver Wedding Crown, can be purchased for around $5.66.
  • An uncirculated coin with a case can command a higher price, with some listings reaching $890.
  • A used, in great condition 1972 Queen Elizabeth And Prince Philip Silver Wedding Crown can be purchased for around $29.70.

It’s important to note that the majority of these coins (7,452,100) were struck in Cupronickel for general circulation, although 100,000 were also produced in .925 silver. While the cupronickel coins are technically legal tender at 25p, they are not widely accepted by banks or retailers.

The value of the silver Crown coins will naturally be higher due to their precious metal content. However, it’s crucial to distinguish between the cupronickel and silver versions to accurately assess the value. Generally, coins with higher grades (like uncirculated or proof) and those in their original presentation cases tend to be more valuable to collectors.

How much is a 1947 to 1972 silver wedding Crown worth?

Good point! What is the 20 November 1947-1972 coin? These coins were sold by banks and post offices to celebrate the 1972 silver wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Because more than seven million were struck, they are fairly common today and not worth much more than their face value, which is 25p.

925 Sterling Silver. The reverse designed by Arnold Machin has the initials EP and the wording Elizabeth and Philip 20 November 1947 – 1972. The obverse depicts a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin.

I can help with that. It is a simple design with EP for Elizabeth and Phillip on one side and the Queen’s portrait on the other side. It is also the first decimal crown or 25 Pence to be struck for the Queen. In 1972 the Royal Mint issued a commemorative 25 Pence or Crown for the Queen & Prince Phillip’s 25th Wedding Anniversary.

Good point! Most examples are made of cupronickel and are not worth much. Are Crown coins rare? Some Crown coins are extremely rare and valuable, but there are also silver Crowns worth little more than their metal value and cupronickel coins worth a grand total of 25p.
