The Amulet Coin is a highly sought-after item in Pokémon Violet due to its ability to significantly boost your in-game earnings. For trainers looking to maximize their prize money from battles, acquiring this item is a top priority. This article provides a comprehensive guide on how to get the Amulet Coin in Pokémon Violet by defeating five specific trainers.

What is the Amulet Coin?

The Amulet Coin is a held item that, when equipped by one of your Pokémon, doubles the prize money you receive from trainer battles. This makes it an invaluable tool for accumulating cash, which can then be used to purchase essential items, Poké Balls, TMs, and even rare clothing in the Paldea region. The increased income allows for greater flexibility in your gameplay, reducing the need to repeatedly grind for money.

Locating the Amulet Coin Quest Giver

The quest to obtain the Amulet Coin begins in the town of Medali. Medali is a significant location in the Paldea region, known for its Gym Leader, Larry, and its vibrant atmosphere.

Step-by-Step Guide to Finding the Representative:

1. Travel to Medali: Use your map or flying taxi service to reach the town of Medali.

  1. Find the Pokémon Center: Upon arriving in Medali, locate the Pokémon Center. These are easily identifiable by their distinctive red roofs and “PC” symbols.
  2. Identify the Battle League Representative: Inside or just outside the Medali Pokémon Center, you will find a non-player character (NPC) dressed in a suit. This individual is the Battle League Representative. He is typically standing near the counter or just outside the entrance. Approach him and initiate a conversation.

When you speak with the Battle League Representative, he will explain that he is responsible for assessing trainers’ abilities and rewarding those who demonstrate sufficient skill. He will then issue a challenge: defeat a certain number of trainers in a specific area to prove your worth and earn a reward. In this case, the reward is the Amulet Coin, and the required area is West Province (Area Three).

The Challenge: Defeating Trainers in West Province (Area Three)

The core task to acquire the Amulet Coin involves defeating five trainers scattered throughout West Province (Area Three). This area is directly accessible from Medali and is characterized by its hilly terrain and winding roads.

Understanding West Province (Area Three):

West Province (Area Three) is an expansive zone with various natural features and several wild Pokémon habitats. It’s also home to a number of trainers ready for battle. The trainers in this region typically have Pokémon ranging in levels from the upper 20s to the mid-30s. This level range suggests that trainers who have progressed through a few Gyms or spent some time exploring will be adequately prepared for these battles.

Strategies for Finding Trainers:

Finding the five required trainers can sometimes be challenging due to the open-world nature of Pokémon Violet. Here are some tips and common locations where trainers can be found:

  • Explore Thoroughly: Do not stick to the main roads. Venture off the beaten path, explore hills, valleys, and hidden corners. Trainers are often positioned in less obvious spots.
  • Look for Trainer Icons: On your mini-map, trainers who are available for battle will often appear as small red icons. Keep an eye on your mini-map as you traverse the area.
  • Listen for Battle Cues: As you approach a trainer, the game will often play a subtle audio cue, indicating their presence and readiness for battle.
  • Common Trainer Locations:
  • South of Medali Pokémon Center: Head south from the Medali Pokémon Center. There is a prominent hill in this direction. Several trainers are often found on or around this hill.
  • Roads Leading North: Follow the roads leading north from Medali towards the mountainous regions. Trainers are frequently positioned along these routes.
  • Near Landmarks: Pay attention to any unique landmarks, ruins, or distinct geographical features within West Province (Area Three). Trainers are often placed strategically near these points of interest.
  • Along the Coastline (if applicable): If West Province (Area Three) has a coastline, check along the beaches or cliffs overlooking the water.
  • Around the Lake/Pond (if applicable): If there are any bodies of water like lakes or ponds, trainers might be found on their shores.

Preparing for Battles:

Before you begin your search for trainers, ensure your Pokémon team is well-prepared.

  • Heal Your Pokémon: Visit any Pokémon Center to fully restore your Pokémon’s health and PP.
  • Stock Up on Items: Carry a good supply of Potions, Super Potions, Hyper Potions, Revives, and any status-healing items like Antidotes or Paralyze Heals.
  • Diverse Team: Have a diverse team of Pokémon with different types to exploit weaknesses of opposing Pokémon.
  • Level Appropriately: As mentioned, trainers in this area have Pokémon in the upper 20s to mid-30s. Ensure your team is at a comparable or higher level to make battles efficient.

Tracking Progress:

The game does not provide an explicit counter for the number of trainers you have defeated for this specific quest. Therefore, it is advisable to keep a mental note or even a physical tally as you defeat each trainer. Once you believe you have defeated five trainers, it’s time to return to Medali.

Claiming Your Amulet Coin

After successfully defeating five trainers in West Province (Area Three), your next step is to return to the Battle League Representative in Medali.

Step-by-Step Reward Claim:

1. Return to Medali: Use your map or flying taxi to quickly travel back to Medali.

  1. Locate the Representative Again: Find the same Battle League Representative at or near the Medali Pokémon Center.
  2. Initiate Conversation: Speak with him once more. He will acknowledge your efforts and success in defeating the required number of trainers.
  3. Receive the Amulet Coin: As a reward for your accomplishment, the Battle League Representative will present you with the Amulet Coin. This item will be added directly to your bag.

Congratulations! You have now successfully acquired the Amulet Coin in Pokémon Violet.

Utilizing the Amulet Coin for Maximum Earnings

Having the Amulet Coin is only the first step; knowing how to use it effectively is crucial for maximizing your prize money.

How to Use the Amulet Coin:

1. Give the Amulet Coin to a Pokémon: Open your bag, navigate to the “Items” section, and select the Amulet Coin. Choose one of your Pokémon to hold it. Any Pokémon in your active party can hold the item.

  1. Participate in Trainer Battles: Engage in any standard trainer battle.
  2. Ensure the Holding Pokémon Participates: For the Amulet Coin’s effect to activate, the Pokémon holding it must participate in the battle. This means it needs to be sent out at least once. It does not need to get a KO, nor does it need to remain active for the entire battle. Even if it is sent out for a single turn and then switched out or faints, the effect will still apply.
  3. Receive Double Prize Money: Upon winning the trainer battle, you will notice that your prize money is double the usual amount.

Important Considerations and Tips for Amulet Coin Usage:

  • Single Amulet Coin Effect: The effect of the Amulet Coin does not stack. Having multiple Pokémon hold Amulet Coins in your party will not multiply your earnings further. Only one Amulet Coin’s effect can apply per battle.
  • Luck Incense: The Luck Incense is another held item with a similar effect (doubling prize money). However, its effect also does not stack with the Amulet Coin. Using both simultaneously will not result in quadruple earnings; you will still only receive double the prize money. It is advisable to use either the Amulet Coin or the Luck Incense, but not both on different Pokémon for the same battle.
  • Trainer Battles Only: The Amulet Coin’s effect is specifically for trainer battles. It does not apply to:
  • Wild Pokémon encounters
  • Tera Raid Battles
  • Battles against special NPCs like Gym Leaders, Elite Four, or Champion (though it applies to regular trainers you encounter on the way to them).
  • Optimal Use: To maximize your income, always have a Pokémon holding the Amulet Coin when you anticipate a series of trainer battles. This is particularly useful when exploring new routes, completing the Gym Challenge, or engaging in post-game content where many trainers are present.
  • Early Acquisition Benefit: Acquiring the Amulet Coin early in your Pokémon Violet playthrough provides a significant financial advantage throughout your adventure. The sooner you get it, the more money you will accumulate.

Why is Money Important in Pokémon Violet?

Money, known as “Pokémon Dollars” or “Poké Dollars,” is a fundamental resource in Pokémon Violet. Having a substantial amount of money allows you to:

  • Purchase Poké Balls: Essential for catching new Pokémon.
  • Buy Potions and Revives: Crucial for keeping your team healthy during long expeditions and tough battles.
  • Acquire TMs (Technical Machines): Used to teach your Pokémon new moves, expanding their battle capabilities.
  • Customize Your Character: Buy new clothing, accessories, and hairstyles.
  • Purchase Ingredients for Picnics: Needed for making sandwiches, which provide various beneficial effects like EXP boosts, encounter rates, and shiny odds.
  • Buy Held Items: Other useful items that can be held by Pokémon to provide various effects in battle.
  • Upgrade Your Backpack: Increase your inventory space.

The Amulet Coin directly contributes to your ability to afford these necessities and luxuries, making your journey through Paldea smoother and more enjoyable.

Conclusion

Obtaining the Amulet Coin in Pokémon Violet is a straightforward yet highly beneficial process. By following the steps outlined in this guide – locating the Battle League Representative in Medali, defeating five trainers in West Province (Area Three), and returning for your reward – you can significantly boost your in-game earnings. Remember to always have a Pokémon hold the Amulet Coin when engaging in trainer battles to maximize your financial gains. This simple item will prove invaluable as you explore the vast Paldea region, catch new Pokémon, and challenge the strongest trainers.

Also, the Luck Incense and Amulet Coin do not stack, so if you use them both, or even six of them, you won’t get more than double money from a battle. The Amulet Coin and Luck Incense do the same exact thing. They both double the amount of money you get for beating a trainer.
