The value of a 1960 French franc coin can vary depending on its condition and whether it’s a standard coin or a more specialized type like a Proof or Essai (trial strike) coin.

  • Circulated condition: A standard 1960 French 1 franc coin in circulated condition typically sells for between $8 and $12.
  • Uncirculated condition: Uncirculated coins might fetch slightly higher prices, but generally the increase in value isn’t enough to warrant professional grading for most collectors.
  • Condition: The better the coin’s condition (less wear and tear, clear details), the more it will generally be worth.
  • Rarity: While common circulating coins are widely available, certain varieties or errors can be quite rare and valuable.
  • Errors or varieties: Some 1960 1 franc coins are distinguished by a “large 0” in the date compared to the more common “small 0”, and these can command higher prices.
  • Type of coin:

– Standard circulating coins: These are the most common and have the lower end of the valuation.
– Essai coins: These are trial strikes and are significantly rarer and more valuable.
– PiĆ©forts: These are heavier, thicker coins struck for collectors and are also more valuable than standard circulating coins.

  • Online marketplaces: Websites like [eBay] and [Etsy] feature numerous listings for 1960 French francs.
  • Coin dealer websites: Specialized numismatic sites like [MA-Shops] offer a wider range of prices based on condition and rarity.
  • Numismatic forums: Online forums for coin collectors, like [Reddit’s r/coins] can be helpful for getting information and estimates from experienced collectors.

Note: The monetary system of France underwent a significant reform in 1960, replacing 100 “old” francs with 1 “new” franc. The 1960 1 franc coin is part of this “new franc” system.

I can help with that. French Franc coins were replaced by Euro coins in 2002 when the Euro became France’s national currency. The exchange deadline for French pre-euro coins expired in 2005. Since then, franc and centimes coins from France no longer have a monetary value.
