The value of a 1921 dollar coin can vary significantly depending on whether it is a Morgan Dollar or a Peace Dollar, its condition, and its mint mark.

  • Circulated Condition: Most 1921 Morgan dollars in average circulated condition are worth between $30 and $75. According to the NGC Price Guide as of August 2025, the value for circulated coins ranges from $41.50 to $75. Coins from Philadelphia are typically the least valuable, with prices ranging from $20-$40 in Extra Fine condition (XF) and up to $150 in Mint State 63 (MS63).
  • Uncirculated Condition: 1921 Morgan dollars in uncirculated condition can be worth much more, especially those graded MS65 or higher. The NGC Price Guide as of August 2025 indicates that pristine, uncirculated coins can sell for as much as $17,500.
  • Mint Marks:

– 1921-S (San Francisco Mint): These coins are slightly more valuable than those from Philadelphia, especially in good condition. According to the NGC Price Guide as of August 2025, circulated coins are worth between $41.50 and $75. Uncirculated 1921 S Silver Dollars can sell for as much as $25,000.
– 1921-D (Denver Mint): These coins are unique because it was the only year the Denver Mint produced Morgan Dollars. According to the NGC Price Guide as of August 2025, circulated coins are worth between $41.50 and $50. Uncirculated 1921 D Silver Dollars can sell for as much as $50,000.

  • Circulated Condition: 1921 Peace dollars are generally more valuable than Morgan dollars. Most coins in low to average condition sell for $100 or more. According to the NGC Price Guide as of August 2025, circulated coins are worth between $100 and $525.
  • High Relief: All 1921 Peace dollars are considered high-relief, which makes them unique. They can sell for hundreds of dollars or more depending on their condition.
  • Uncirculated Condition: High-grade, uncirculated 1921 Peace Dollars can be very valuable. According to the NGC Price Guide as of August 2025, pristine, uncirculated coins can sell for as much as $67,500.
  • Silver Melt Value: Both Morgan and Peace dollars contain about 0.7734 oz of silver, and their melt value is based on the current spot price of silver.
  • Condition/Grade: The condition, or grade, of a coin significantly impacts its value, with higher grades commanding higher premiums.
  • Mint Mark: For Morgan dollars, the San Francisco (S) or Denver (D) mint mark may indicate a slightly higher value than coins from Philadelphia (no mint mark). Peace Dollars were only minted in Philadelphia.
  • Errors and Varieties: While minor variations exist for 1921 Morgan dollars, some notable errors for the 1921 Peace dollar have been documented and can increase value.

On the other hand, Morgan dollars minted at different facilities, such as San Francisco (S), New Orleans (O), Carson City (CC), and Denver (D), do bear mint marks indicating their origin. These marks are usually found on the coin’s reverse side, just above the “DO” in “DOLLAR.”
