The value of a 1984 one-cent coin (Lincoln penny) can vary greatly depending on its condition, presence of mint errors, and other factors.

Here’s a breakdown:

  • Typical circulated condition: Most 1984 pennies in average circulated condition are worth close to their face value, or around $0.01 – $0.10.
  • Uncirculated condition: Pennies in uncirculated grades (MS60-MS65) can be worth $0.20 – $1.50, depending on their color (BN – Brown, RB – Red Brown, RD – Red). Higher grades (MS66-MS68 RD) can fetch $5 – $50+.
  • Doubled Die Obverse (DDO) “Double Ear”: This is a significant error, with values ranging from $100 – $300 for uncirculated coins (MS63-MS64 RD) and even higher, potentially exceeding $3,000 for high-grade specimens (MS65-MS67 RD). The doubled ear is visible as a distinct doubling on Lincoln’s earlobe, according to a YouTube video discussing this error.
  • Other errors: Other mint errors, such as off-center strikes, broadstrikes, die cracks, and RPM (Repunched Mintmark), can also increase a coin’s value. Values for these errors can range from a few dollars to hundreds or even thousands, depending on the error type and severity.
  • Proof coins (San Francisco Mint – S mintmark): These coins are specially struck for collectors and are typically worth more than their circulation counterparts. Values can range from $1 – $5 for PR65-PR68 grades and go up to $100 – $150+ for perfect PR70 Deep Cameo (DCAM) examples.

In summary, while most 1984 Lincoln cents are not worth much more than their face value, certain errors and high-grade uncirculated examples can be quite valuable to collectors. It’s recommended to consult with a professional coin appraiser to determine the precise value of a specific coin.

From my experience, The penny features a doubled die reverse and obverse, as well as a doubled die reverse, making it a valuable addition to any collection. This 1984-D Lincoln Memorial copper penny is a truly unique find for any coin collector.

The 1984 Quarter value ranges from $0.30 to as high as $1,293. The coin has four major errors that are mostly in the Philadelphia-minted coins, whose value goes up to $500. The worth of the Quarter is significantly impacted by its condition and availability.

Good point! This 1984 D Penny is a rare find for collectors due to its numerous errors. The coin features a misaligned Liberty design and the word “iberty” instead of “Liberty” on the obverse side. Additionally, the reverse side shows “God We Trust” without the word “In”.

Depending on their condition, those 1943 Lincoln wheat pennies would be worth at most between $100,000 and $250,000, Feigenbaum told USA TODAY.
