PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) provides two primary ways to submit coins for grading: directly through the Collectors Club or via a PCGS Authorized Dealer.

This method involves the following steps:

  1. Become a PCGS Collectors Club member: You’ll need to join the PCGS Collectors Club to be eligible to submit coins directly. Membership tiers and associated costs can be found on the PCGS website.
  2. Access the online submission system: Once a member, log in to your PCGS account and initiate a new submission.
  3. Specify coin details and desired service levels: Indicate whether you’re submitting U.S. or World coins, the service type (raw, regrade, crossover, or reholder), and your desired service level (Regular, Economy, Express, etc.), along with the declared value of each coin.
  4. Complete the submission form: Provide the required information for each coin, including its description, quantity, declared value, and any add-on services you require (e.g., First Strike).
  5. Print submission form and labels: After reviewing the fees and choosing your payment method, print and sign the submission form. You will also need to print the corresponding flip labels for each coin.
  6. Package the coins according to PCGS guidelines: Carefully place each coin in a non-PVC Mylar flip, ensuring the flip’s opening is sealed and the coin is placed securely.
  7. Label each flip: Using either white stickers or printed flip labels, mark each flip with the submission number and the coin’s line number on the submission form.
  8. Organize and cushion the coins: Stack the labeled flips in the order they appear on the submission form and secure them with rubber bands. Place the stacks on bubble wrap or styrofoam and wrap them securely with tape.
  9. Prepare the shipping box: Place the submission form, checks or vouchers (if applicable), and coins inside the shipping box. Securely seal the box with packing tape, especially if using Registered Mail, where paper tape is required by postal guidelines.
  10. Ship the coins: Mark the outside of the package with the fastest service level requested for processing. You can ship via U.S. Mail (Registered, insured) to the address provided on the PCGS website or FedEx Express to the designated address.

This method might be beneficial if you’re not interested in a Collectors Club membership or if you prefer a streamlined submission process. You can contact a PCGS Authorized Dealer in your area who can assist you with the entire grading process.

Good point! You can submit photos of your coins to us for free coin authentication and grading ! Here’s how it works: Take photographs of the coins you want graded. Make sure the coins are centered in the photo and hold the camera steady to avoid blurry pictures.

While it is not necessary to grade every coin in your collection, grading some of your more valuable pieces may be worth it in order to ensure that you are getting what you expect for them. In this blog post, we will explore the different grades and what they mean for a coin’s value.
