The value of a John Adams coin depends on several factors, including the type of coin, its condition, and whether it has any errors.

  • Circulated coins: The standard John Adams Presidential Dollar coin, minted in 2007, is generally worth its face value, $1.
  • Uncirculated condition: In pristine, uncirculated condition, it could be worth slightly more, possibly ranging from $2 to $5, depending on its grade.
  • Proof versions: Specially struck proof versions of the coin can be more valuable, potentially reaching $10 to $15, especially if graded Proof 70 (highest grade).
  • Error coins: Some John Adams Presidential Dollars have errors, which can significantly increase their value. Examples include:

– Missing edge lettering: This error, where the inscriptions like “E Pluribus Unum” and the mint mark are absent from the coin’s edge, can make the coin worth a substantial amount, potentially reaching thousands of dollars in high grades. A 2007 John Adams dollar without edge lettering can be worth around $141,000.
– Doubled edge lettering: This error involves the edge inscriptions appearing doubled or overlapping. A 2007 John Adams Dollar with doubled edge lettering could be worth around $39.95 in uncirculated condition.
– Missing layer/missing edge letters: These coins can also be very valuable, with one being offered for sale at $495.

  • If you have a coin that was genuinely minted during John Adams’ presidency (1797-1801), its value would depend heavily on its date, denomination, and condition. These older coins, if authentic and in good condition, could potentially be worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars. However, it’s crucial to differentiate these from the modern Presidential Dollars, which list Adams’ years in office but were minted in 2007.

In summary, a 2007 John Adams Presidential Dollar is usually worth face value or slightly more if uncirculated. However, error coins, especially those with missing edge lettering, can be highly valuable. If you possess what you believe to be an older coin from Adams’ presidential era, it’s highly recommended to consult with a professional coin appraiser or dealer for a proper valuation.

Good point! 2007 p John Adams $1 coin. This coin has a rare errors – it is struck off center and is in A-postion. Please see photos – it is much more prominent on the back of the coin, but both sides are off center and do not have uniform borders.
