The value of a Toys for Tots coin featuring a bear can vary depending on several factors, but generally, they are not considered to be of significant monetary value.

Here’s a breakdown of what determines the value:

  • Challenge coins: These are small medallions, often presented as a token of service or achievement within military units. Their value depends on rarity, condition, and desirability among collectors.
  • Tokens: These may have been given to children during Toys for Tots events. They are generally less valuable than challenge coins.
  • Limited editions or older coins might fetch higher prices than commonly issued ones.
  • Coins in excellent condition, with minimal wear and tear, will typically be more valuable than those that are damaged or heavily used.
  • Some collectors might be particularly interested in Toys for Tots memorabilia, potentially driving up the price of certain coins.
  • Generally, these coins sell for around $10 to $20 online.
  • Some rare or particularly desirable coins could potentially sell for more, but this is less common.
  • Etsy and eBay are good places to find these coins and gauge their value. Prices range from $11 to $700, but these higher prices are likely outliers. For example, one Etsy listing offers a vintage 2000s United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots Token for $130.

In summary, while a Toys for Tots bear coin might hold sentimental value, its monetary worth is usually modest, ranging from a few dollars to potentially $20 or more for rare or well-preserved examples.

From my experience, It is from the 2nd half of the 20th century (Toys for Tots started in 1947) – circa 1980s. They were either given to a Marine as a token of service or to children when visited by the Marines. Nothing of significant value and $10 to $20 would be the maximum you would see it sell for online.

Maj Hendricks and the Marines in his reserve unit in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys in 1947. Seeing such successful community engagement in 1947, the Commandant directed all Marine Reserve Sites to implement a TFT campaign transforming it into a national community action program in 1948.

Good point! The token is a challenge coin and is made with high-quality materials. It is a great way to show support for the Marine Corps while also adding a unique piece to your collection. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to own this piece of history.
