The value of a 1976 proof coin set depends on the specific type of set it is. There are two primary types of 1976 US proof sets:

  • 1976 Clad Proof Set: This set contains six coins: Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Bicentennial Washington Quarter (Copper-Nickel Clad), Bicentennial Kennedy Half Dollar (Copper-Nickel Clad), and Bicentennial Eisenhower Dollar (Copper-Nickel Clad). These coins are not made of silver. The value of this set can range, with some sellers listing it for around $12-$39.99. Other sellers offer this set at prices like $17.95, $18.74, or $30.95. Some listings offer quantities at discounted prices, for example, 25+ sets for $22.40 each.
  • 1976-S Bicentennial Silver Proof Set: This set contains three coins: the Bicentennial quarter, half dollar, and dollar, all struck in 40% silver. The value of this set is typically higher due to the silver content. Examples of prices include $26.95-$28.03 for any quantity, $18.00, $22.50, $41.23, $49.00 and $56.95. The Greysheet catalog lists the CPG® value for this silver proof set as $24.00.

The actual value of a 1976 proof set can also be influenced by:

  • Condition: Sets in pristine condition with original government packaging (OGP) often command higher prices.
  • Errors: Proof sets with errors, such as a doubled die obverse on a bicentennial quarter, can be significantly more valuable than standard sets.
  • Rarity of Finishes: While Brilliant, Cameo, and Deep Cameo finishes are readily available, a particularly high-grade Deep Cameo coin might be more sought after.

Important note: Dealers often trade proof sets between 5-20% below the CDN Greysheet bids, and discounts may apply when selling varied issues in large quantities.
