The value of a 1957 5 pesetas coin (KM#786) varies greatly depending on its condition and the specific minting variation (indicated by the small star on the coin).

Here’s a general overview:

  • The face value of a 1957 5 pesetas coin is the equivalent of $0.000302 USD today.
  • Circulated coins: In circulated, but relatively good condition, they can be worth $1 – $3 USD.
  • Better condition: Uncirculated coins or those in better grades can fetch higher prices. For example, an ANACS MS-63 graded coin (Mint State) sold for $80 at auction.
  • Rarer minting variations: Certain variations with a different year in the star can be significantly more valuable. For example, a 1957 (1962) 5 Pesetas coin was listed on eBay for $524.98.

  1. Examine the coin carefully to identify the year indicated in the small star, typically found on the reverse.
  2. Consult a reputable coin value guide or a professional coin dealer for an appraisal based on the coin’s condition and minting variation. Resources like [PCGS] and [NGC] have online price guides and offer grading services.

Factors influencing a coin’s value:

  • Grade/Condition: The better the condition (less wear, scratches, etc.), the higher the value.
  • Rarity/Mintage: Coins with lower mintage numbers or specific rare variations are generally more valuable.
  • Demand/Popularity: Coins that are in high demand among collectors will command higher prices.

Collectible coins. Expats might have pesetas sitting around as souvenirs, or in too-small quantities to warrant contacting the Bank of Spain to exchange them. However, certain peseta coins in could be worth anything from €45-20,000.

Good point! The Banco de España started issuing these 5 Spanish Peseta coins in 1989. They were withdrawn from circulation in 2002. The gold-colored Spanish piece of 5 ptas exists in many different design variations, each one issued to commemorate people, events or places in Spain like, the Islas Baleares.
