The weight of a 1 coin depends on the country and the type of coin.

  • Modern circulating dollar coins (such as the Sacagawea, Native American, and American Innovation dollars) weigh 8.1 grams or 0.286 ounces. These coins are made from a manganese-brass clad composition.
  • The Eisenhower dollar, minted from 1971 to 1978, had a weight of roughly 22.68 grams for the circulating copper/nickel-clad version and about 24.624 grams for the silver-clad version.
  • The current UK £1 coin, introduced in 2017, weighs 8.75 grams . It has a bimetallic composition with an outer ring of nickel-brass and an inner planchet of nickel-plated alloy.
  • The older round £1 coin, minted from 1983 to 2017, weighed 9.50 grams.

The British £1 coin that we all know, struck in 22-carat Gold by The Royal Mint in a minimum of good to fair condition. The one pound coin comes in a range of designs but rest assured you will receive a great looking coin – all are marked “One Pound”.

Good point! The new £1 coin will see the end of the round pound as we know it. After 15 th October 2017, the round pound will no longer be legal tender so if you’ve got old round pound coins in your wallet, piggy banks or hidden down the back of your sofa, dig them out and spend them before they become useless.
