The value of a 1975 Roosevelt dime (10 cent coin) can vary significantly depending on several factors, primarily its condition and the presence or absence of a mint mark.

Here’s a breakdown:

  • Circulated 1975 dimes (Philadelphia or Denver mint) : These are quite common and typically worth close to their face value ($0.10). According to the NGC Price Guide (August 2025), a circulated 1975 Roosevelt dime is valued between $0.15 and $0.35. However, if in exceptionally good condition, they could potentially fetch up to $0.50.
  • Uncirculated 1975 dimes: These can be worth more, especially if they have full bands (referring to the horizontal lines on the torch on the reverse).

– 1975 (Philadelphia, no mint mark) in MS67 (mint state, grade 67) with full bands: Valued at approximately $2,250.
– 1975-D (Denver mint) in MS67 with full bands: Can fetch up to $550.
– 1975-S (San Francisco mint) Proof: These coins are minted specifically for collectors, feature a mirror-like finish, and have the “S” mint mark. They are worth more than business strike dimes and a perfect grade (PR70) can be worth $110.

  • Rare Error Dimes (The Exception): 1975 No S Proof Dime: This is a significant error coin where the proof dime from the San Francisco mint was mistakenly struck without the “S” mint mark. Only two such dimes are known to exist, making them incredibly rare and valuable. One of these was sold for $500,000 at auction, and another example, bought in 1978 for $18,200 (around $90,000 today), is expected to sell for over half a million dollars.

In summary, a regular 1975 dime is likely worth close to face value, but certain uncirculated or proof versions can command a premium, especially the incredibly rare “No S” proof dime. If you believe you have a valuable error dime, it is recommended to get it authenticated and graded by a professional service like PCGS or NGC.

      Valuable 1975 Dimes
Only two examples are known. So, it is one of the rarest pieces ever struck by the U.S. Mint. This incredible rarity stems from an error during die preparation: the San Francisco Mint’s distinctive ā€œSā€ mark was inadvertently left off the die used to produce these proof coins.

Where Is the Mint Mark on a 1975 Dime: Check the front (obverse) of the coin, just above the date near Roosevelt’s neck. Normally, those struck in San Francisco for proof sets bear an “S” mint mark. A “No S” one lacks this mint mark. Proof Coin Features: The error only occurs in proof sets.
