In most cases, Wells Fargo no longer provides in-lobby coin-counting machines . However, there are alternative options for exchanging your coins for cash or other forms of value:

  • Banks and credit unions: Many financial institutions, including Wells Fargo, will accept rolled coins from customers for deposit or exchange. Some credit unions and community banks might still offer coin-counting machines, often for free for members and sometimes for a fee for non-members.
  • Coinstar kiosks: These machines are widely available in grocery stores and other retail locations. They can process your coins and offer various redemption options, including:

– Cash: Note that a fee (often around 11.9%) will be deducted from your total.
– No-fee e-gift cards: Choose from over 20 retailers and restaurants, including Amazon, Starbucks, and Southwest Airlines.
– Charitable donations: Donate to a variety of causes without incurring fees.

  • Walmart self-checkout: Some Walmart self-checkout machines allow you to deposit coins and receive paper money as change.
  • Regional retailers: Some grocery chains, like Publix, have their own coin-counting machines, although a fee may apply.
  • Visit the Coinstar website and use their [kiosk finder].
  • Enter your zip code or city to see a list of nearby locations with Coinstar kiosks.
  • Check with your bank or credit union: Contact them to inquire about their specific coin exchange policies and whether they accept unrolled coins or require them to be rolled.
  • Be aware of fees: Coinstar machines charge a fee for converting coins to cash. Some credit unions and banks may also charge fees for non-members.
  • Consider your options: Determine which method of coin exchange best suits your needs, considering convenience, fees, and the form of value you prefer (cash, gift cards, etc.).

Note that foreign currency and gift cards cannot be exchanged at Coinstar kiosks.

If no Wells Fargo’s have them, where near the TC area can I find one with lower fees? Wells Fargo got rid of all their in-lobby coin counting machines a few years ago. You could try a US Bank location. LPT, Many Walmart self service check outs you can pull out the coin slot and can dump in coins.

Most banks or credit unions will accept rolled coins from customers, but some may charge a fee for the service. Some banks, such as Wells Fargo, will exchange rolled coins for customers without a fee. Wells Fargo says it also offers free coin wrappers. Check your bank’s policy.
