Silver dollar coins have featured a variety of figures on their obverse (heads) side throughout history.

Here’s a breakdown of some prominent examples:

  • Lady Liberty: Lady Liberty has been a recurring theme on many silver dollar coins. Her depiction and attributes vary depending on the specific coin series:

– Morgan Dollars: Features a portrait of Lady Liberty, modeled by Anna Willess Williams, wearing a bonnet and a headband inscribed with “LIBERTY”.
– Peace Dollars: Depicts Lady Liberty with flowing hair and a crown.
– Flowing Hair Dollars: Features a portrait of Lady Liberty with long, flowing hair.
– Draped Bust Dollars: Features Lady Liberty with her hair draped elegantly.
– Seated Liberty Dollars: Features a depiction of Lady Liberty seated on a rock, holding a shield and an olive branch.
– Trade Dollars: Showcases a seated Liberty with a coiled flag and the word “LIBERTY” inscribed on a flowing ribbon.

  • Sacagawea: The Native American $1 Coins, starting in 2000, feature an image of Sacagawea carrying her baby, Jean-Baptiste on the obverse.
  • Presidents: The Presidential $1 Coins, issued from 2007-2016 and again in 2020, depicted former U.S. presidents on their obverses.
  • Dwight D. Eisenhower: The Eisenhower Dollar, minted from 1971-1978, featured a portrait of President Dwight D. Eisenhower on the obverse.
  • Susan B. Anthony: The Susan B. Anthony Dollar, minted from 1979-1981 and again in 1999, featured a portrait of the women’s suffrage leader Susan B. Anthony on the obverse.

It’s important to note that dollar coins minted before 1965 contained silver. However, the Eisenhower dollar for circulation, starting in 1971, was no longer made of silver and was instead a clad coin (layers of copper and nickel surrounding a core of pure copper). Silver dollar coins are generally not found in circulation today due to their silver content and are mostly held by collectors.

      From my experience, Dollar History
It was made of silver and showed a woman who represented liberty on the obverse with an eagle on the reverse. For more than 170 years, different Liberty and eagle designs were used on the dollar. Fun Fact! The word “dollar” comes from the German word “thaler,” which was a large silver German coin.

I can help with that. The coin depicts President Dwight D. Eisenhower on the obverse, and a stylized image honoring the 1969 Apollo 11 Moon mission on the reverse.
