The value of a 2000 Sacagawea one-dollar coin can vary significantly depending on several factors, primarily its condition, mint mark, and whether it exhibits any errors or special features.

  • Condition (Grade): Coins in pristine, uncirculated condition, particularly those graded MS-65 or higher by professional grading services like PCGS or NGC, command higher prices.
  • Mint Mark: The mint mark (P for Philadelphia or D for Denver) can influence rarity and value. For instance, some 2000-D coins are rarer due to specific production errors.
  • Errors and Varieties: Certain mint errors or special varieties can drastically increase a coin’s value. Examples include:

– 2000-P “Cheerios” Dollars: These coins, distributed in Cheerios boxes, have enhanced detail on the eagle’s tail feathers, making them significantly more valuable than standard issues. They can fetch prices between $5,000 and $25,000+ for coins in good condition.
– “Wounded Eagle” Variety: Some 2000-P Sacagawea dollars have a unique flaw in the die that leaves a raised line or “wound” over the eagle’s breast. These can be valued from $250 to $5,000+ depending on the grade.
– Mule Errors: Mule errors are coins struck with mismatched dies, such as a Sacagawea obverse (front) and a Washington quarter reverse (back), or Sacagawea/South Carolina Quarter mules. These are extremely rare and highly prized, with some specimens selling for tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars at auction. One example of the 2000-D Sacagawea Dollar and South Carolina Quarter mule is so rare that only one is known to exist, and it sold for $66,000 in 2022. A 2000-P Sacagawea dollar and Washington quarter mule sold for $144,000 in 2022. Another mule error from 2000 features a Sacagawea Dollar struck on a Susan B. Anthony planchet, with one such coin selling for $16,800 in 2022.
– Other Errors: Off-center strikes, planchet errors (struck on the wrong type of coin blank), and die cracks can also add value to a 2000 Sacagawea dollar.

  • Historical and Collectible Appeal: As the first year of issue for the Sacagawea dollar, the 2000 coins have historical significance that can appeal to collectors. The coin also features a real woman, Sacagawea, making it historically notable.
  • Standard Circulation Strike (P or D mint mark): Most circulated 2000 Sacagawea dollars are only worth their face value of $1. However, some sources suggest they might fetch slightly more, around $1.05 to $1.35 for circulated coins. Uncirculated standard coins in grades like MS60-MS65 might be worth $10-$30.
  • Proof (S mint mark): Proof coins, typically from the San Francisco Mint (S mint mark), are specially made for collectors and can be worth more, ranging from $3.70 to $41 or more depending on the grade and rarity.
  • Millennium Set (D mint mark): A 2000-D Sacagawea dollar that was part of a Millennium Set can be worth between $202 and $863.
  • Cheerios Dollar (P mint mark): As mentioned above, these are highly sought after and can be valued between $4,156 and $10,200.
  • Wounded Eagle Variety (P mint mark): These error coins can be worth $59 to $5,000, depending on the condition and the severity of the error.
  • Mule Errors: Mule errors can be the most valuable, ranging from $66,000 to over $194,062.50. One source mentions a 2000-W mule that exceeded $100,000 in value.
  • Experimental Rinse Error: A rare 2000 P Sacagawea Experimental Rinse coin, certified MS 65 by PCGS, was available for $2200.

Note: It’s crucial to be cautious about online listings for 2000 Sacagawea coins that advertise very high values without clear explanations or third-party grading. Some online listings have been identified as potentially fraudulent. If you believe you have a valuable coin, consult a reputable coin expert or a professional grading service like PCGS or NGC for authentication and appraisal.

Thanks for asking. There are a couple of special varieties that are collectible like the 2000-P Cheerios coin. However, your regular strike Sacagawea coins are still just worth $1 and will likely only be worth a dollar for the foreseeable future.

To determine if your Sacagawea coin is rare, check for minting errors, special finishes, unique die variations, and research mintage numbers.

Loose 2000-P Sacagawea coins are still just worth a dollar. However, an original roll of 20 coins usually sells for around $30. There is a variety known as a 2000 Cheerios dollar. Those were struck with a higher detail.

I can help with that. In general, most Sacagawea dollars are only worth their face value of $1. But select error coins—particularly those with unique minting mistakes or special characteristics—can command prices as high as $10,000 or more among collectors.
