In the dark and unforgiving world of Remnant 2, players are constantly faced with difficult choices that shape their journey and determine the rewards they reap. One such pivotal encounter involves the enigmatic Red Prince, a regal and imposing figure who presents a unique dilemma: do you appease him with a tribute of Crimson King Coins, or do you stand your ground and engage him in a challenging boss battle? This decision, central to the “remnant 2 give coin or fight” conundrum, has significant implications for your progression, offering distinct paths to valuable rewards and unique lore insights.

This comprehensive guide delves into the intricacies of this encounter, exploring both the “give coins” and “fight” options in detail, helping you navigate the treacherous paths laid out by the Red Prince.

The Red Prince Encounter: A Royal Demand

The Red Prince is a notable NPC (Non-Player Character) found within the Gilded Chambers, a labyrinthine area teeming with formidable foes. His presence immediately signals an important decision point, as he doesn’t simply offer dialogue; he issues a demand, forcing players to consider their resources and combat prowess. The core of the “remnant 2 give coin or fight” choice lies in meeting his specific requirements or preparing for a confrontation.

Option 1: Appeasing the Red Prince with Coins

Choosing to give the Red Prince coins is often seen as the “peaceful” route, though as we’ll discover, it’s far from a truly tranquil resolution. This option requires careful preparation and an understanding of where to acquire the necessary tribute.

The Tribute: Crimson King Coins

To satisfy the Red Prince’s demand, you will need precisely three Crimson King Coins. These aren’t readily found lying around; they are specific drops from certain enemies within the Gilded Chambers.

Where to Find Crimson King Coins

The primary source of Crimson King Coins is by defeating Red Knight elite enemies in the Gilded Chambers. These formidable foes are distinct from regular enemies and often pose a significant challenge. They are easily identifiable by their unique armor and aggressive combat patterns. Farming these enemies may require multiple runs through the Gilded Chambers, making patience and persistence key to collecting the required number of coins. Each Red Knight elite you defeat has a chance to drop a Crimson King Coin, so be prepared for a bit of grinding if you choose this path.

The “Peaceful” Outcome: A Bloody End and a Valuable Reward

Even if you successfully gather and offer the three Crimson King Coins, the Red Prince does not simply let you pass unharmed. In a shocking twist, he will still kill you in a cutscene. This unexpected turn of events highlights the deceptive nature of the encounter and reinforces the unforgiving lore of Remnant 2.

However, this isn’t a death without purpose. Upon respawning, you will receive a crucial crafting material: the Bloody Steel Splinter. This item is invaluable as it allows you to craft the Blood Draw weapon mod. The Blood Draw mod imbues your weapon with unique abilities, often centered around life-steal or damage amplification, making it a powerful addition to many builds. For players seeking this specific mod, the “remnant 2 give coin or fight” decision leans heavily towards appeasement.

The Consequence of Insufficient Tribute

It’s important to note the strictness of the Red Prince’s demand. If you attempt to offer fewer than three Crimson King Coins, he will be insulted by your meager tribute. This immediately triggers the boss fight, regardless of your initial intention. Therefore, if you commit to the “give coins” path, ensure you have the full amount before approaching him. There’s no partial credit when dealing with royalty in Remnant 2.

Awakened King DLC: An Expanded Reward

For players who own the Awakened King DLC, the “remnant 2 give coin or fight” choice takes on an additional layer of reward. If you encounter the Red Prince in the Chamber of the Faithless after successfully dethroning the One True King, paying him the three Crimson King Coins yields an extra, highly sought-after prize: the Red Prince armor set.

This full armor set not only provides significant defensive stats but also contributes to the aesthetic customization of your character. Collecting unique armor sets is a common goal for many Remnant 2 players, and the Red Prince set is a stylish addition. This makes the “give coins” option even more appealing for DLC owners who have progressed through the Awakened King storyline.

Option 2: Engaging the Red Prince in Combat

If you lack the Crimson King Coins, prefer to conserve them, or simply relish the challenge of a boss battle, the alternative is to fight the Red Prince. This option directly addresses the “remnant 2 give coin or fight” dilemma by choosing confrontation over appeasement.

The Boss Battle: A Test of Skill

The Red Prince, when faced in combat, is a formidable boss. He possesses a unique set of attacks, movement patterns, and vulnerabilities that players must learn to overcome. As a boss, he will have:

  • Distinct Attack Phases: Like most bosses in Remnant 2, the Red Prince will likely transition through different attack phases, introducing new abilities or intensifying existing ones as his health dwindles.
  • Specific Weak Points: Identifying and targeting his weak points is crucial for maximizing damage and shortening the fight.
  • Environmental Hazards: The arena where you fight the Red Prince may contain environmental elements that can be used to your advantage or pose additional threats.

Players should prepare by:

  • Upgrading their gear: Ensure your weapons and armor are sufficiently upgraded.
  • Equipping appropriate mods and mutators: Choose mods that complement your playstyle and counter the Red Prince’s strengths.
  • Stocking up on consumables: Health concoctions, bandages, and other buffs can turn the tide of a difficult boss fight.
  • Understanding his moveset: Observing his attack patterns and learning to dodge or counter them is paramount to victory.

Rewards for Victory

Defeating the Red Prince in combat yields various rewards, though the specific loot may vary depending on factors such as:

  • Difficulty Setting: Higher difficulties often provide better quality or quantity of loot.
  • Randomized Drops: Like many elements in Remnant 2, some drops can be randomized, meaning you might get different items on subsequent playthroughs.
  • Specific Crafting Materials: Bosses typically drop unique crafting materials that are used to create powerful weapons, mods, or archetypes.
  • Experience and Scrap: You will always gain experience points for your character and scrap, the primary currency in Remnant 2, for defeating a boss.

While the exact drops can vary, you are guaranteed to receive valuable materials for your efforts, often including items that can be crafted into unique weapons or mods not obtainable through the coin-paying route. This makes the “remnant 2 give coin or fight” choice a strategic decision based on what specific rewards you prioritize for your character build.

Choosing Your Path: A Strategic Decision

The decision to “remnant 2 give coin or fight” is not a simple one, nor is there a universally “better” option. Both paths offer unique rewards and experiences, catering to different player preferences and immediate needs.

When to Consider Giving Coins:

  • You prioritize the Blood Draw weapon mod: If this specific mod is crucial for your build or playstyle, paying the coins is the direct route.
  • You own the Awakened King DLC and want the Red Prince armor set: This becomes a highly attractive option for fashion-conscious players or those seeking specific defensive stats.
  • You want to bypass a difficult boss fight: If you’re struggling with combat or prefer to conserve resources, paying the coins avoids the direct confrontation.
  • You have a surplus of Crimson King Coins: If you’ve been farming Red Knight elites for other reasons, you might already have the required tribute.

When to Consider Fighting:

  • You enjoy challenging boss battles: For players who thrive on combat and testing their skills, fighting the Red Prince is a rewarding experience.
  • You need general boss loot and experience: Defeating any boss contributes to overall progression, providing scrap, experience, and valuable crafting materials for other unique items.
  • You don’t have enough Crimson King Coins (or don’t want to farm them): If the grind for coins seems tedious, fighting is the immediate alternative.
  • You’re curious about the Red Prince’s combat mechanics: Experiencing all aspects of the game, including its bosses, is part of the fun for many players.
  • You don’t need the Blood Draw mod or Red Prince armor set: If these specific rewards aren’t a priority, the general boss drops might be more appealing.

Lore Implications: The Brutality of Yaesha

The “remnant 2 give coin or fight” encounter is more than just a gameplay mechanic; it’s a reflection of the harsh realities within the world of Yaesha, where the Red Prince resides. The fact that paying tribute still results in a cutscene death underscores the unforgiving nature of this realm and its inhabitants. It suggests that appeasement doesn’t guarantee safety, only a different outcome. This encounter adds depth to the lore, painting a picture of a world where power dynamics are absolute, and even a “peaceful” resolution comes at a cost.

Conclusion

The “remnant 2 give coin or fight” dilemma presented by the Red Prince is a quintessential Remnant 2 experience. It’s a choice that forces players to weigh immediate gains against potential challenges, and specific rewards against general progression. Whether you choose to gather the Crimson King Coins and endure a symbolic death for the Bloody Steel Splinter (and potentially the Red Prince armor set in the DLC), or you decide to stand your ground and defeat him in a challenging boss battle for varied rewards, both paths offer valuable contributions to your journey through the fractured worlds of Remnant 2. Understanding the nuances of each option empowers you to make the most strategic decision for your character and your playstyle, ensuring that every encounter, even one with a demanding royal, yields meaningful progress.

I can help with that. How to Use Crimson King Coin in Remnant 2. They have to present them to The Red Prince in order to pay tribute to him and avoid fighting him. Regardless, he will kill the player, but grant them Bloody Steel Splinter when they re-appear at the checkpoint. The Red Prince will be gone as if he was faced.

From my experience, Players can always choose to fight, though if they do not have enough coins that will be their only option. Paying the Red Prince will result in a different outcome, granting a Mod (see below). Bosses are the ultimate Enemies as they present a more challenging battle than Enemies or “Elite” Enemies.

Good point! The Crimson King throws sneetchs at Roland, who takes cover and dodges them, but Roland also finds he can not hit the Crimson King by gun. In the end, Patrick Danville draws and erases the Crimson King, wiping his body out of existence (The Crimson King’s Eye still remain on he balcony of the Dark Tower).

I can help with that. If you have 3 and offer him tribute he’ll give you the crafting material necessary to craft the Blood Draw mod. Also, if you encounter him in the Forsaken Coast (DLC) area you can pay him the 3 coins after defeating the One True King, then meet him in the throne room afterwards, he’ll give you the Red Prince armor set.
