The United States quarter features an image of George Washington on the obverse (heads side). He has been on the quarter since 1932, the 200th anniversary of his birth.

The reverse (tails side) of the quarter changes often. As part of the ongoing American Women Quarters™ Program, there are five different designs each year from 2022 to 2025, honoring American women who have made significant contributions to the country.

For example, the women honored in the American Women Quarters™ Program in 2025 are Ida B. Wells, Juliette Gordon Low, Dr. Vera Rubin, Stacey Park Milbern, and Althea Gibson. In 2022, the program featured Maya Angelou, Dr. Sally Ride, Wilma Mankiller, Nina Otero-Warren, and Anna May Wong. In 2023, the designs honored Bessie Coleman, Jovita Idar, Edith Kanakaʻole, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Maria Tallchief. The 2024 designs honor Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray, The Honorable Patsy Takemoto Mink, Dr. Mary Edwards Walker, Celia Cruz, and Zitkala-Ša.

Adorning its obverse is the profile of George Washington, while its reverse design has undergone frequent changes since 1998. Since its initial production in 1796, the quarter dollar has held a significant place in American numismatics, with consistent production since 1831.

Thanks for asking. The quarter is the United States’ 25-cent coin. The person on the obverse (heads) of the quarter is George Washington, our first president. He’s been on the quarter since 1932, the 200th anniversary of his birth. The right-facing portrait of Washington dates to 2022.
