A 1973 Elizabeth II coin’s value can vary significantly based on several factors, including the coin’s denomination, country of origin, condition, and rarity.

Here are some examples of 1973 Elizabeth II coins and their typical value ranges:

  • UK 50 Pence: This coin was the first commemorative 50p issued after decimalization, celebrating the UK’s entry into the European Economic Community (EEC).

– A circulated version typically holds a value close to face value, potentially slightly higher for coins in good condition.
– An uncirculated or “almost uncirculated” 1973 EEC 50p can fetch prices ranging from approximately 92 USD to 800 USD, or even higher, depending on its specific condition.
– A Proof version can be worth around 92 USD.

  • Canadian One Cent:

– While many circulated 1973 Canadian pennies have a nominal value, specific rare versions might command prices in the range of 300-500 USD, especially if in pristine condition.

  • UK One New Penny:

– A standard circulated 1973 UK One New Penny (1p) has a low value.
– However, if you have a rare “New Penny” 1p coin, particularly if it’s considered uncirculated or in exceptional condition, it could be worth around 3795 USD.

  • UK Proof Set:

– The 1973 Elizabeth II annual proof set contains a collection of coins, including the first commemorative 50p, and may be valued around £400 GBP. Note that proof coins are specially minted for collectors and typically command higher prices than circulating currency.

In summary, for accurate valuation of your specific 1973 Elizabeth II coin, it’s recommended to:

  • Identify the specific denomination and country of origin.
  • Assess the coin’s condition. Uncirculated coins or those with unique features (like error strikes or exceptional condition) typically hold higher value.
  • Consider getting it professionally graded. For potentially rare or high-value coins, this can help determine its true worth.

Great question! There was never another batch made after they went into circulation in 2008. Today, these coins go for about £52 (about 66 USD). However, other collectible coins were minted purposely during the Queen’s reign. The Kew Gardens coin was released in 2009, and it was worth 50p and celebrated the landmark.

Good point! It is an old large-sized 50 Pence which was issued in 1973. It was the first-ever commemorative 50 Pence pieces, the series they are issuing today are based on this coin. It was issued to honour our joining the European Economic Community or EU for short. In 1973 we joined it, in 2021 we are finally rid of it.
