The value of a 1980 Susan B. Anthony dollar coin can vary significantly depending on its condition and the presence of any errors or varieties.

  • Circulated coins: In circulated condition, a 1980 Susan B. Anthony dollar coin is generally worth between $1.05 and $1.35, according to the NGC Price Guide as of August 2025.
  • Uncirculated coins: Uncirculated coins, particularly those in high grades (e.g., MS-65 or higher), can be worth substantially more. For instance, a 1980-P Susan B. Anthony dollar graded MS60 is available for $14.50. A 1980-S Susan B. Anthony dollar graded MS65 is available for $47. Pristine, uncirculated 1980-P silver dollars can even fetch as much as $600.
  • Errors and varieties: Coins with specific errors or varieties can be significantly more valuable. For example:

– Wide Rim Error: A 1980-P Susan B Anthony dollar coin with a Wide Rim Error can be a rare find for coin collectors.
– Other errors: Other errors like filled mint marks, doubled die errors, and striking errors can also increase a coin’s value.

  • Factors influencing value: The value of a coin is determined by factors including its rarity, condition (grade), demand, historical significance, and metal content.
  • Inspect for wear: Examine the coin for signs of wear and tear, especially on the high points of the design.
  • Check the mint mark: The mint mark (P, D, or S) is located on the obverse (front) of the coin, above Susan B. Anthony’s shoulder.
  • Research errors and varieties: Familiarize yourself with the known errors and varieties for the 1980 Susan B. Anthony dollar coin.
  • Consider professional grading: If you believe your coin is in exceptional condition or has a notable error, consider having it professionally graded to obtain an accurate assessment of its value.

In summary, while most circulated 1980 Susan B. Anthony dollar coins are worth close to their face value, those in excellent condition or possessing specific errors or varieties can be significantly more valuable to collectors.

Thanks for asking. How can you tell if a Susan B Anthony coin is rare? Look for the mint mark and the year. Coins from 1981, produced only for collectors and not for circulation, tend to be rarer. The 1999 minting is also less common.

I can help with that. The 1980 Quarter value ranges from a dollar to as high as $10,000. However, there are three things that determine the value: the condition, the mintmark, and the errors.

Key Differences Between Type 1 and Type 2:
Type 2 has the “S” mintmark (struck in San Francisco as part of proof sets). Production Quality: Type 1 is a circulating one. Type 2 is a proof 1981 Susan B Anthony dollar uncirculated coin.
