Yes, you can use Coinstar for free in some instances, but it depends on the payment method you choose.

Here’s how to potentially use Coinstar for free:

  • eGift Cards: If you exchange your coins for an eGift Card from one of Coinstar’s partners (like Amazon, Starbucks, or The Home Depot), many options are available with a 0% fee.
  • Charitable Donations: Coinstar also waives its fee if you choose to donate your coins directly to a partnering charity through the kiosk. However, Coinstar does retain a processing fee from the charity for national and regional charities.

  • Cash vouchers usually come with a service fee, which can be up to 12.9% plus a transaction fee, according to Coinstar.
  • Fees can vary depending on the location and specific retailer agreements, so it’s always a good idea to check the details at the kiosk before you begin your transaction.
  • Limits: Coinstar may have limits on the amount of change you can exchange for gift cards, so it’s a good idea to be aware of those limits for the particular gift card you’re interested in.

In essence, Coinstar provides a convenient way to convert loose change, but the cost depends on whether you opt for cash (which usually incurs fees) or choose the fee-free alternatives like eGift cards or charitable donations.

Is there a charge to use a Coinstar kiosk? Not always. Free coin counting is available at most locations in the United States if you cash in your coins for an eGift Card with a 0% fee. We have more than 20 stores and restaurants to choose from – eGift Card fees vary by brand.

Great question! There’s no way to get free Star coins . Unless, once in a blue moon, SSO gives out a free star coin code. The last time they had one was over the Winter Holiday Event for an advent reward, it was 300 SC. Your best bet is to wait until a double SC weekend , and purchase then.
