Yes, Publix grocery stores offer coin counting services.

Here’s how it generally works:

  • Locate the machine: Publix stores have their own coin sorting machines, typically situated near the front of the store or by the customer service desk.
  • Deposit coins: You’ll put your loose coins into the machine.
  • Receive a receipt: The machine will count the coins and print a receipt detailing the total amount.
  • Redeem for cash: Take the receipt to the customer service counter to exchange it for cash.
  • Fees: Publix coin-counting services typically involve a fee, often around 10% of the total amount.
  • Alternatives: Other options exist for exchanging coins, such as Coinstar kiosks (also located in grocery stores) which may have different fees (often higher than Publix’s) but sometimes offer fee-free gift card options.
  • Banks and Credit Unions: Your own bank or credit union might also offer coin exchange services, potentially for free to account holders, though you may need to roll your coins yourself or check if they have a coin counting machine available.
  • Verify at Your Local Store: It’s always a good idea to confirm the specific fees and procedures at your local Publix before you go, as details may vary slightly by location.

      From my experience, Coinstar
Banks, Walmart stores, supermarkets, gas stations and many other retailers — over 24,000 in all — have Coinstar kiosks that make it easy to cash in your change. Pour your loose change into the receiver and let the machine do the work of sorting and counting the coins.

Banks often give out free coin wrappers for customers to use. You’ll sort your coins into pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters and then wrap them yourself. After the bank teller counts your coins, they will give you cash in exchange or send a deposit to your savings or checking account.
