The value of an old peso coin depends on several factors, including:

  • Country of origin: Pesos are used in various countries, and the value of a coin can differ greatly depending on where it was minted.
  • Mint year: Certain years or mint marks are rarer than others, making them more valuable to collectors.
  • Condition or Grade: Coins are graded on a scale of 1 to 70 based on wear, luster, and overall condition. A higher grade generally equates to a higher price.
  • Metal Content: Pesos containing precious metals like silver or gold will have an inherent metal value that adds to their overall worth.
  • Rarity and Demand: Limited mintage numbers, historical significance, or unique characteristics can drive up a coin’s value.

Examples of Peso Coin Values

  • Mexican Silver Pesos (1957-1967): These coins contain .0514 oz of .100 fine silver. Depending on their condition, they can sell for around $8.29 to $15.75.
  • Vintage 1000 Peso Mexican Coin (1988): This rare coin, made of gold-colored metal, is listed on eBay for $999.99.
  • Rare One Peso Filipino Coin (1908): This particular coin, minted in San Francisco and made of 80% silver, was once legal tender in the Philippines. It is listed for $151.61, discounted from $200.
  • Philippine Peso (1903-1912): Values for these coins can range from $27 to $180,000, depending on the specific year, mint, and condition.

Good point! Among the rarest coins in the U.S. Philippines series from the collectors’ standpoint are the 1906-S One Peso, the 1916-S Five Centavos, the 1918-S Five Centavo Mule, the 1903-S Twenty Centavos (especially in Mint State) and the 1915-S One Centavo.

Thanks for asking. As a silver coin, it contains approximately 0.723 troy ounces of pure silver, making it a tangible store of value.
