The value of a John Tyler coin can vary significantly depending on several factors, primarily type, condition, and the presence of errors:

  • Circulated/Uncirculated: A standard John Tyler Presidential dollar (minted in 2009) in circulated condition typically has a low value, often close to its face value of $1.
  • Errors: Presidential dollars are known to have various errors, and John Tyler coins with these errors can command much higher prices. Some common errors include:

– Double Die Error: Coins with doubled edge lettering, where the lettering appears doubled or inverted, are considered valuable. One 2009 John Tyler double die error coin was listed for $400 on eBay.
– Off-Center Lip/Inverted Back: Some John Tyler error coins feature an off-centered lip or an inverted back (upside down), increasing their value. These coins can fetch prices up to $100-$750 depending on the severity of the error.

  • Graded Condition: Coins professionally graded and encapsulated often command higher prices, particularly in uncirculated condition.
  • Value: An 1841 Seated Liberty dollar with John Tyler on it can be worth considerably more due to its age and historical significance.
  • Circulated/Uncirculated: As of August 2025, a Seated Liberty Dollar from 1841 in circulated condition is worth between $350 and $2,850. However, in pristine, uncirculated condition, it can sell for as much as $125,000.
  • Rarity: Coins with lower mintages or those that are difficult to find in good condition tend to be more valuable.
  • Condition: The better the condition (less wear and tear), the higher the value.
  • Errors: As mentioned earlier, significant errors can drastically increase a coin’s value.
  • Certification: Having a coin certified by a reputable grading service can authenticate its condition and potentially boost its value.

In conclusion, if you have a John Tyler Presidential dollar coin, its value might be close to face value unless it has a noticeable error. If you possess an 1841 Seated Liberty dollar, it could be considerably more valuable. Consulting a reputable coin dealer or using online resources to assess your specific coin’s condition and potential errors is recommended for a more precise valuation.

Good point! It features the portrait of President John Tyler on the obverse and the Presidential Seal on the reverse. The coin is a business strike type and has not been certified. It is a $1 denomination and was minted in the United States.
