Capital One, like many large banks, does not offer coin-counting machines for customer use . However, they may still accept pre-rolled coins for deposit from account holders. You can also inquire about obtaining coin wrappers from them to roll your coins before depositing them. Some online sources indicate that Capital One branches may have coin machines in the back that tellers can use to process coin deposits.

  • Other banks and credit unions: While many large banks have removed coin counters, some smaller community banks and credit unions may still offer them. It’s advisable to check with your specific bank or credit union regarding their policy on coin exchange, as some may charge fees for the service.
  • Coin-counting kiosks: Coinstar kiosks are often available in supermarkets and other retail locations, allowing you to convert your coins to cash, eGift cards, or make donations. Note that Coinstar typically charges a fee for converting coins to cash.

Capital One does offer foreign currency exchange services, primarily for business clients and those interested in investing in foreign currencies. However, it may not be the most cost-effective option for personal travel needs, as they may charge commissions and hidden exchange rate margins.

  • Multi-currency digital accounts: Services like Revolut and Wise offer multi-currency accounts that allow you to hold and exchange funds at competitive exchange rates, often close to the mid-market rate.
  • Foreign ATMs: Withdrawing local currency from ATMs in the destination country using a debit card that doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees can be a good option. Capital One’s 360 checking account doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees, making it a viable option for international ATM withdrawals, [according to Capital One].
  • International money transfer services: If you need to send money internationally, online services like Remitly can offer cheaper rates compared to traditional banks.

In conclusion, while Capital One may not be the ideal solution for exchanging coins or getting foreign currency for personal travel, you have several alternative options depending on your specific needs. It’s always wise to research and compare different services to find the most cost-effective and convenient solution for your situation.

From my experience, Your local bank branch is a good place to exchange coins. The branch will typically give you coin wrappers for free. Credit unions or community banks are more likely to have free coin-counting machines for members.

I can help with that. Add Cash in Store is available at CVS, Walgreens and Duane Reade™ by Walgreens locations in the U.S. It’s not available at CVS Pharmacy® locations inside Target stores. You can use the Capital One Mobile app to add cash to your 360 Checking account. Find a location near you.
