New Mexico is featured on a number of coins, most notably the 2008 New Mexico State Quarter . This was the 47th coin released in the U.S. Mint’s 50 State Quarters Program, recognizing New Mexico as the 47th state admitted to the Union.

Here are some key aspects of the New Mexico State Quarter and other related coins:

  • Design: The reverse (tails side) features a Zia sun symbol superimposed over a topographical outline of the state. The Zia sun symbol, from the Zia Pueblo people, represents life and love, with four groups of four rays symbolizing concepts like the four directions and seasons. New Mexico’s nickname, “Land of Enchantment,” and the year of statehood, “1912,” are inscribed on the coin. The obverse (heads side) features the familiar image of George Washington.
  • Mint Marks: The quarter was produced at the Philadelphia (P) and Denver (D) Mints for general circulation . There were also silver proof versions produced at the San Francisco (S) Mint , containing 90% silver and 10% copper.
  • Errors: Some 2008 New Mexico Quarters have been found with a double die reverse error in the lower left-hand symbol, where there may be doubling. Others may have an extra earlobe error.
  • Native America the Beautiful Series: The Native American Mint released a 2023 1 oz Proof Native America the Beautiful New Mexico Silver Coin, honoring the Navajo people. The coin depicts the historic site of Chetro Ketl and features the series emblem on the reverse. These coins are not considered U.S. legal tender.
  • Challenge Coins: Novelty challenge coins related to New Mexico are also available, such as the [NEW MEXICO State Seal Challenge Coin] and the [NEW MEXICO Conservation Officer Game Warden Novelty Collectors Coin] . These are not official state-issued coins but tributes to specific groups or symbols.

What state quarter is worth $10,000?

Why would a Georgia quarter be worth $10,000? It was only one of a very special 1999 quarter that was minted on an experimental golden-colored test planchet (test alloy) and very rare. It sold for a little over $10,000 because it doesn’t have the regular copper-nickel plating and edge.

And here are the errors on the New Mexico quarter. So I forgot if I mentioned this but there is some extra earlobes. On some of the quarters. Though that will have very marginal values maybe $2 or $3.
