The U.S. quarter coin features George Washington , the first president of the United States, on its obverse (heads side). This design has been in use since 1932, commemorating the 200th anniversary of his birth.

However, the reverse (tails side) of the quarter undergoes frequent changes. Currently, as part of the American Women Quarters™ Program, the reverse features various designs honoring American women and their contributions to the United States. This program started in 2022 and will continue until 2025, releasing five new reverse designs each year. Each design celebrates American women who have made significant contributions across various fields, including civil rights, science, and the arts.

It’s also worth noting that prior to 2022, George Washington faced left on the quarter, but since 2022, his portrait faces right.

Great question! Adorning its obverse is the profile of George Washington, while its reverse design has undergone frequent changes since 1998. Since its initial production in 1796, the quarter dollar has held a significant place in American numismatics, with consistent production since 1831.

The quarter is the United States’ 25-cent coin. The person on the obverse (heads) of the quarter is George Washington, our first president. He’s been on the quarter since 1932, the 200th anniversary of his birth. The right-facing portrait of Washington dates to 2022.
