The value of “Republique Francaise” coins can vary significantly depending on several factors, including:

  • Denomination and Year: Different denominations and years of issue will naturally have different values. For example, a 1 Franc coin from 1977 might be worth around $39.99, while a 1963 20 Centimes coin could be around $21.23 for three coins.
  • Condition: Coins in better condition (uncirculated) generally fetch higher prices than those that are circulated or show signs of wear.
  • Rarity: Some years or specific minting errors can make a coin rarer and therefore more valuable. For example, a “REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE” coin from 1971 featuring “O.ROTY” is considered extremely rare and is listed for $30 (originally $175).
  • Metal Composition: Coins made of precious metals, such as gold or silver, will naturally have a higher inherent value. A 1915 2 Francs silver coin, for instance, is listed for $20.
  • Collector Demand: The popularity of a particular coin among collectors can also influence its market value.
  • A 1977 1 Franc coin , considered a very rare collectible, is offered for $39.99.
  • A set of three 1963 20 Centimes coins, described as having marks and wear but still in good condition, is listed for $21.23.
  • A 1908 “Piastre De Commerce” coin is priced at $50.
  • A rare 1969 1 Franc “Semeuse” coin is offered for $49.99.
  • A 1971 5 Francs “O.ROTY” coin , described as “extremely rare” and in excellent condition, is listed for $30 (discounted from $175).

To get the most accurate valuation for a specific coin, it is recommended to:

  • Consult a professional coin appraiser or numismatist.
  • Browse online marketplaces like [eBay] and [Etsy] and compare similar coins that have recently sold.
  • Refer to specialized coin value guides or catalogs.

From my experience, The French franc (F) was the national currency of France prior to France’s adoption of the euro (EUR) in January 2002. Prior to its replacement by the EUR, the franc was administered by the Bank of France and was comprised of 100 subunits, or ‘centimes. ‘

Good point! 1808 20 French Francs gold coin. It features the Laureate head portrait of Napoleon (I) and the reverse has the value and year with a wreath. This was the second, and final, year that Napoleon Laureate Head French Francs featured the text “REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE” on the reverse.
