Most Walmart locations offer coin exchange services through Coinstar kiosks.

Here’s how coin exchange at Walmart usually works

  • Availability: Many Walmart stores are equipped with Coinstar machines for coin processing. However, it’s advisable to confirm the availability and operational status of the Coinstar machine at your specific Walmart location before visiting, as individual stores may have variations in service availability due to factors like machine functionality or store-specific policies.
  • Process:

1. Locate the Coinstar machine, typically near the customer service desk or MoneyCenter.
2. Pour your loose coins into the machine’s tray.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen to choose your payout option, either cash or an eGift Card.
4. The machine counts and sorts the coins and then issues a voucher with the total amount (minus any applicable fees).
5. Take the voucher to the cashier for cash redemption or apply it towards a purchase.

  • Fees: Coinstar charges a service fee, typically a percentage of the total coin value, for cash redemption. Fees may vary by location and if you choose a gift card option, some may be offered with no fees. Be sure to check the fee structure before initiating the exchange.
  • Options: You have the choice to convert your coins to cash, select an eGift card from various retailers, or donate to a charitable organization.
  • Transaction Limits: Walmart or Coinstar may have limits on the maximum coin value that can be exchanged per transaction or per day. These limits are in place to manage operational efficiency and prevent potential misuse of the system.
