If you have a 2000 Sacagawea dollar coin, its value can range considerably depending on certain characteristics.

  • Circulation strike: Most 2000 Sacagawea dollars found in circulation are only worth their face value of $1.
  • Uncirculated condition: If the coin is in excellent, uncirculated condition, it could be worth more, [according to NGC] . For instance, a 2000-P Sacagawea Dollar in pristine condition has sold for as much as $375.

Some 2000 Sacagawea dollars have specific characteristics or errors that make them much more valuable to collectors.

  • “Cheerios” dollars: These coins were part of a promotion where some Sacagawea dollars were included in boxes of Cheerios cereal. They are identifiable by a more detailed design on the eagle’s tail feathers on the reverse. Only about 60 to 70 are known to exist.

– Value: These coins can be worth anywhere from $5,000 to over $25,000.

  • “Wounded Eagle” error: Some 2000-P Sacagawea dollars have a die error that creates a faint line on the eagle’s breast, resembling a wound.

– Value: These coins can sell for $250 to $5,000 or more, depending on their condition.

  • Mule errors: These are coins that have mismatched designs on the obverse (front) and reverse (back).

– Sacagawea dollar/state quarter mule: One extremely rare example, a 2000-D Sacagawea dollar struck with a South Carolina quarter die, sold for $66,000 in 2022.
– Sacagawea dollar/Washington quarter mule: Another type of mule error features a Sacagawea dollar obverse and a Washington quarter reverse. Only 18 of these are known to exist. One sold for $144,000 at auction in 2022.

In summary

While most 2000 Sacagawea dollars are only worth their face value, it’s worth examining any 2000 Sacagawea dollars you may have for these unique features or errors, which could significantly increase their value.

If you believe you have a valuable error coin or a special variety, it’s recommended to have it appraised by a professional coin dealer or a reputable coin grading service to determine its accurate value.

Dollars not the state quarter. Design you also want to look for the P mint mark on the obverse of the coin denoting its minting at the Philadelphia.
