The value of a 1971 Eisenhower dollar coin depends on several factors, primarily its mint mark and condition. Eisenhower dollars were minted from 1971 to 1978.

Here’s a breakdown:

  • 1971-S (San Francisco Mint) Silver Eisenhower Dollar:

– These coins are known as “Brown Ikes” and were specifically minted for collectors, containing 40% silver and 60% copper.
– In circulated condition, these coins are worth between $12.75 and $14 according to the NGC Price Guide (August 2025).
– In pristine, uncirculated condition, they can sell for as much as $6250.
– The melt value for these coins (based on the price of silver) is around $12.20 as of August 13, 2025.
– To determine if your 1971-S Eisenhower dollar is silver, check the edge of the coin. If it has a silvery appearance with a faint blue streak and a weight of about 24.624g, it is likely a 40% silver coin.

  • Error coins or varieties can also significantly increase the value.
  • It’s always recommended to consult with a reputable coin dealer or authenticator for a professional valuation, especially for higher-value or rare coins.

Look for a Silver or Copper Stripe
You can also check the edge of the coin for a silver stripe. If you find one, you most likely have a 40% silver, or silver clad Eisenhower dollar.
