No, a coin flip is not exactly 50/50.

While it’s commonly believed that a coin toss provides a perfectly fair and random 50/50 chance between heads and tails, research suggests a slight bias towards the side facing upwards before the flip. Studies have found that coins tend to land on the same side they started on approximately 50.8% of the time.

This small bias is attributed to the physics involved in the coin toss, such as the initial upward velocity, spin, and even the way the coin is caught. It’s important to remember that this bias is subtle and might not significantly affect the outcome of a single flip or a small number of flips. However, over a large number of tosses, it could become more apparent.

Thanks for asking. The coin doesn’t know what happened to it last time, or the last 100 times, it was flipped. It’s always 50/50. What is very improbable is you flipping tails 100 or 101 times in a row, and that is making you think that it affects the individual coin flip’s probability, but that’s a psychological illusion.

In certain situations, the game will prompt the player to choose between heads or tails, before flipping a coin; however, due to the way the game is programmed, the player’s choice ultimately has no outcome on the result (see #Trivia). Rather, the odds will always be 50/50.
