Gold dollar coins without a date on the face exist, but the date and mint mark are typically located on the edge of the coin. This practice began with the Native American dollar series in 2009. It’s crucial to be aware that while the absence of a date on the face is normal for these coins, it’s also possible to find error coins that are missing the date on the edge as well, and these are rare and can be valuable.

It’s also important to note that Sacagawea dollars are not actually made of gold, but rather a composition of copper, zinc, manganese, and nickel. They are described as “gold colored” or having a “gold composition” due to their appearance.

Some examples of gold dollar coins without a date that have appeared on the market include:

Why does my gold dollar not have a date on it?

Thanks for asking. After 8 years of the Sacagawea Dollars, the United States Mint began to try new designs. Thus, came the Native American Dollar Coins. One thing that you can note about the new designs is that there is no longer a date or a mint mark visible on the dollar. Instead, the date and mint mark appear on the edge.

How can you tell if a gold dollar coin is rare?

From my experience, One of the easiest ways to tell if a coin is rare is to check the date. If the coin is from before 1800, it’s likely rare. Coins minted in the 19th century are also generally considered rare, with a few exceptions. Coins from the 20th century are less likely to be rare, but there are still some that meet the criteria.

Thanks for asking. U.S. Coins without dates are normally coins that are worn, suffer as a result of Mint errors (e.g. U.S. Mint Dollar Error Blank Planchet – Type II No Date) or simply because someone decided to file the dates off.

So stay tuned. First off I want to go over a few facts on some coins that are known for no date like the Buffalo nickel. And the standing Liberty quarter.
