The design on the back (reverse) of a quarter dollar coin can vary significantly depending on the series being issued by the U.S. Mint.
For instance, the reverse designs have featured:
- A heraldic eagle from 1932 to 1998.
- Designs celebrating each state’s unique heritage and symbols as part of the 50 State Quarters Program (1999-2008).
- Designs honoring United States National Parks during the America the Beautiful Quarters program (2010-2021).
- Portraits of prominent American women as part of the American Women Quarters Program (2022-2025).
The obverse (heads side) of the quarter has featured a portrait of George Washington since 1932. Prior to 2022, Washington faced left, but the American Women Quarters Program initiated a right-facing portrait.
