The value of a 1976 Bicentennial dollar coin depends on several factors, including its condition, mint mark, and whether it’s the standard copper-nickel clad version or the rarer 40% silver issue.

  • Most 1976 Bicentennial dollars are copper-nickel clad and were intended for circulation.
  • In circulated condition, these coins are generally worth their face value, $1, or perhaps slightly more (around $1.25 – $3.00) depending on their condition and the demand from collectors.
  • Uncirculated examples in higher grades (like MS-65 or better) can fetch higher prices. For instance, a Type 1 clad coin in MS-65 condition might be worth around $5, while a Type 2 in MS-67 could reach $25.
  • Some 1976 Bicentennial dollars were specially minted in 40% silver for collectors and were primarily issued from the San Francisco Mint with an “S” mint mark.
  • These coins have a higher intrinsic value due to their silver content, and their price will fluctuate with the current spot price of silver.
  • Circulated 40% silver Bicentennial dollars typically trade for more than face value, often in the range of $12.75 to $14.
  • Uncirculated examples or those in pristine proof condition (especially deep cameo or “DCAM” coins) command significantly higher premiums.
  • Condition and Grading: The better the condition, the higher the value. Coins are graded on a scale from Poor (P-1) to Perfect Uncirculated (MS-70).
  • Mint Mark: The presence or absence of a mint mark (P for Philadelphia, D for Denver, S for San Francisco) can impact rarity and value.
  • Reverse Design (Type 1 vs. Type 2): There are two reverse types for the 1976 Eisenhower Dollar, distinguished by the thickness and sharpness of the lettering.

– Type 1: Has bold, low-relief lettering and is scarcer, especially in higher grades.
– Type 2: Features thinner, sharper lettering and is more common, particularly for proofs.

  • Errors and Varieties: Mint errors (e.g., doubling, off-center strikes) and specific varieties can significantly boost a coin’s value. One notable example is the incredibly rare 1976-S No-S silver proof, estimated to be worth around $850,000.

In summary: While most 1976 Bicentennial dollars are worth close to their face value, certain variations, particularly those made of 40% silver, proofs, or coins with rare errors, can be quite valuable to collectors. It’s recommended to consult a reputable coin dealer or price guide for a more precise valuation of your specific coin.

Thanks for asking. So that previous coin sold in 2017. This one sold in 2022. The same coin same grade everything is the same except this one sold for 1,740. Bucks now that’s a lot of money still.
