Yes, many Walmart locations have Coinstar kiosks where you can turn your loose change into cash, gift cards, or even bitcoin.

Keep in mind:

  • Fees: Coinstar machines typically charge a service fee if you choose to receive cash.
  • Gift Card Option: You may be able to avoid the service fee by opting for a gift card to a specific retailer instead of cash.
  • Not All Stores: While many Walmarts have Coinstar machines, it’s always a good idea to check for a kiosk at your local Walmart’s website or by contacting their customer service to confirm availability before heading over.

In addition, some Walmart self-checkout machines may accept coins as payment, which could be used as a way to convert them into bills if you cancel the transaction after inserting the coins and then get refunded in bills. This is an unofficial method and may not work at all locations or with all self-checkout machines.

Great question! Between growing kids and growing lists, every coin counts. Visit Coinstar at Walmart and turn spare change into pencils, planners, and peace of mind. Find a kiosk near you: https://loom.ly/4v7RZO4.

Good point! Your local bank branch is a good place to exchange coins. The branch will typically give you coin wrappers for free. Credit unions or community banks are more likely to have free coin-counting machines for members.

To the best of my knowledge, coinstar machines are available in all Walmart locations, but none of them are exactly free. If you go to use one, be sure and look closely at the print on the screen, because most of them charge anywhere from 10 to 12%.

Good point! The coin slot is actually a little flap on most register models. Open it and dump your change in. Take a good 20 seconds in between each dump as to not clog the machine. This could take 5 or more minutes depending on the amount of change you have.
