The term “øre ” (plural “øre”) refers to the centesimal subdivision of the Norwegian krone (NOK). One Norwegian Krone is equal to 100 øre. Although the øre is still used for quoting prices and calculations, it’s important to note that øre coins are no longer in circulation . The last øre coin, the 50-øre coin, was withdrawn from circulation in 2012.

Therefore, while you might still see prices quoted with øre (like 9.50 NOK), if you pay with cash in Norway, the amount will be rounded to the nearest whole krone, as there are no smaller coins for change. However, if you use a debit or credit card, you will be charged the exact amount.

From my experience, The Norges Bank started issuing these 0.5 Norwegian Krone coins in 1994. They were withdrawn from circulation in 2012. The Norwegian piece of 50 ore is imprinted with the word ‘Noreg’. The Norwegian Kroner is subdivided into 100 øre.

Great question! Øre (plural øre, Danish pronunciation: [ˈøːɐ], Norwegian pronunciation: [ˈø̀ːrə]) is the centesimal subdivision of the Danish and Norwegian krone.

Thanks for asking. The Norwegian silver-colored coin of 1 krone has a diameter of 21mm and weighs 4.35g. The coin has a hole in the middle. The word ‘Norge’ is inscripted on the 1 NOK copper-nickel coin”.
