The original 1933 Liberty Gold Coin, a double eagle, is a legendary and extremely rare coin, with only a few known to exist legally.

However, if you’re referring to a copy of the 1933 Liberty Gold Coin (which is often indicated by the word “COPY” on the coin itself), its value is significantly lower than the original and will primarily be as a collectible or novelty item.

Here’s a breakdown of the value of a 1933 Liberty Gold Coin copy:

  • Replica Coins: These coins are reproductions of the original 1933 Double Eagle, designed to be collector’s items rather than genuine currency.
  • Legal Marking: Replica coins, by law (the Hobby Protection Act), must be plainly and permanently marked with the word “COPY” to avoid being considered counterfeit.
  • Value Range: The value of these copies can range from a few dollars for basic reproductions to tens or even over a hundred dollars for high-quality or specialized replicas (e.g., gold-plated, proof versions, or those with unique features). You can find them on various marketplaces like eBay and Etsy. For example, one listing for a 1933 Liberty Gold Coin Copy sells for around $23.99 USD. Another listing, for a “1933 Liberty Standing Walking 20 Dollar Coin” copy (described as a “fantasy issue”), is priced at $129.99 USD.

Important Note: It’s crucial to understand that replica coins are not the same as counterfeit coins . Counterfeit coins are illegal to possess and are made with the intent to deceive, while replicas are clearly marked copies intended for collecting. If you have a coin you believe might be a counterfeit, it’s best to consult with a reputable coin expert or local authorities.

Good point! The word copy on it means it is a replica (copy) of a rare coin, so it is worth the amount you paid for it to you, but nothing to others. It a copy of an ultra rare 1933 double eagle. It’s most likely just plated.

However, most “COPY” coins have little to no market value beyond their novelty or material worth. If you’re unsure about its material composition or potential value, consider having it appraised by a professional.
